Izu Cactus Park (Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture) is a theme park-style botanical park and zoo that combines greenhouse displays of cacti and succulents with opportunities to interact with animals. In addition to greenhouses and outdoor exhibits that house a wide variety of cacti and succulents from Japan and abroad, the park is known for its "hot spring baths (open-air baths)" for capybaras, and is characterized by its ability to allow visitors to experience the charm of plants and animals up close through seasonal exhibits and events. - congestion:The park tends to get crowded on weekends, consecutive holidays (Golden Week, summer vacation, New Year's), and during the winter tourist season. Visitors especially gather during capybara bathing times and popular events, so please allow yourself plenty of time when visiting.
- Etiquette for interacting with animals:In the petting area, follow the instructions of the staff and do not startle or touch the animals. When feeding animals, please only feed them in designated areas.
- Cactus thorns:Please be careful, especially if you have children with you, as there is a risk of injury if you touch the exhibits.
- Climate and clothing:The greenhouse can be hot and humid. Outdoors, there are days when the sun is shining or the wind is strong, so we recommend wearing a hat, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes. In winter, the capybara hot springs are a highlight, but it is cold outside, so be sure to dress warmly.
