Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Ota Memorial Museum of Art is a private museum specializing in ukiyo-e, located in the Harajuku area of Shibuya Ward, Tokyo. It opened with an ukiyo-e collection assembled after the war, and its main purpose is to preserve, research, and exhibit ukiyo-e. The museum's collection mainly consists of works by major ukiyo-e artists from the classical to early modern periods, and its major appeal is that the exhibits change seasonally and according to theme, allowing visitors to always enjoy a different selection of works. Although the museum is small, it is popular with visitors from Japan and abroad for its collection of masterpieces and for its casual opportunity to learn about the art history and techniques of ukiyo-e.
Highlights
