Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Meijo Park is an urban park located in the heart of Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. It features a large walking area that utilizes the outer moat and surrounding green spaces of the adjacent Nagoya Castle (commonly known as "Meijo"). The open views overlooking the castle, combined with the seasonal plantings, make it a popular place for relaxation for citizens and tourists alike. With many seasonal attractions such as cherry blossoms in spring, roses from early summer to autumn, and autumn foliage, it is a large urban park suitable for jogging, walking, and picnics.

  • View of Nagoya CastleFrom within the park and the surrounding walkways, you can get a close-up view of Nagoya Castle's keep and moat, and there are many great photo spots.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • subwayThe nearest station to Meijo Park is Meijo-Koen Station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway Meijo Line. It's easily accessible by subway from Nagoya Station and Sakae Station, and the park is just a few minutes' walk from the station.
  • Walking and cyclingThe surrounding area is flat and easy to walk around, and also convenient for cycling. Many people use rental or shared bicycles within the city.
  • Bus/CarThere are also bus stops for tour buses and regular bus routes nearby. If you are visiting by car, please use the surrounding paid parking lots (there are limited large parking lots operated by the park).

  • Short stroll: 30 minutes to 1 hour (just enough time to admire the surrounding scenery and the exterior of Nagoya Castle)
  • Relaxed sightseeing: 1.5 to 3 hours (relax in the rose garden and plaza, take photos, have a light meal)
  • If including facility use and sightseeing in the surrounding area: Half a day to a full day (combining with nearby facilities such as Nagoya Castle Honmaru Palace)

  • congestionThe area gets extremely crowded during cherry blossom season, rose blooming season, Golden Week, and weekends. Please plan your photography and strolling around with plenty of time to spare.
  • MannersPlease take your trash home or dispose of it in the designated area. Large parties and the use of sound equipment on the lawn may disturb other guests. Please keep your pets on a leash and be sure to clean up after them.
  • Fires and barbecuesUnauthorized use of fire and barbecues is often prohibited, so please check local signs and city regulations.
  • Seasonal precautionsIn summer, be careful of the heat and heatstroke (take precautions such as drinking water and using sun protection). From autumn to spring, adjust your clothing to prepare for windy days and temperature fluctuations. When it rains, there may be muddy or slippery areas.
