Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Kitanomaru Park is a metropolitan park in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, located north of the Imperial Palace (Edo Castle). Originally the site of the castle grounds and samurai residences known as the "Kitanomaru" of Edo Castle, it was developed after the Showa era into the lush public park it is today. Within the park, vestiges of the castle ruins remain, including a large lawn, walking paths, stone walls and moats, making it an urban oasis where you can enjoy nature in all four seasons.

The park is home to cultural facilities such as the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, the National Museum of Modern Art (adjacent to the National Museum of Modern Art and the Crafts Gallery), and the Nippon Budokan, and is known as a hub for culture, academia, and sports. The park is particularly attractive for its cherry blossoms in spring, autumn leaves, quiet ponds, and plazas, making it a popular spot for strolls, picnics, and photography.
